In 1993 James’s mother, Sheila, was still living in Los Angeles and James and I thoroughly enjoyed our trips out there to visit her. On this particular occasion we also did a road trip from LA to Las Vegas. This was the first time that either of us had ever visited Las Vegas and despite our initial reservations, we both loved it. We stayed in a Casino called Bob Stupak’s Vegas World. It had a outer-space theme and was quite amazing place. Neither James nor I gambled but we sure did enjoy the great food and shows that Vegas is famed for.

That casino is long gone now. It was replaced by the Stratosphere which dominates one end of the strip. I return to Vegas fairly regularly, and it gets bigger and better every year, but I still miss Bob Stupak’ Vegas World because it was our first venture to Las Vegas and we had such low expectations of what we would find there.

When in Los Angeles we would also always take the opportunity to meet up with James’ extended family that had lived there for many years or been born over there.
